How Much Passive Income I Earn Monthly From Print on Demand Platforms

Generating passive income from multiple sources has been a big goal of mine since I first came across the concept years ago. I first started my print on demand journey back in June 2020, and today, I am earning passive income every month from several platforms, and from two pretty consistently.

Just in case you are unfamiliar with it, print on demand, or POD for short, entails a user uploading designs, photos, or artwork onto a website, which then creates mock-up photos of that design on a bunch of different products. These products include everything from stickers and shirts to phone cases, bathmats, and backpacks.

Every time someone buys a product that has your design on it, you receive a royalty, or percentage of the sale price. The POD company takes care of creating the product, shipping it, customer service and marketing.

And my favorite part is that it is free to sign up to sell on these platforms; unlike with Etsy, there are no listing fees, transaction fees, or marketing fees!

So far, I sell my designs on Redbubble, TeePublic, Merch by Amazon, Amazon KDP, and Society6, but Redbubble and TeePublic have been the most reliable and profitable so far.

From Redbubble, which offers a wide variety of products, I earn on average $50 per month from a portfolio of just over 200 designs. Most of my recent sales are a combination of stickers, masks, and the occasional hoodie, shower curtain, or throw blanket.

From TeePublic, a similar website that offers fewer products, I earn on average $10 per month from a portfolio of around 170 designs. Most of these sales are from t-shirts, stickers, and hoodies. This platform runs frequent sales and does not permit artists to set their own margins, so earnings from TeePublic are nearly always less than earnings from Redbubble.

From Amazon KDP’s (book self-publishing) website, I usually only make a few dollars every month. On this platform, I currently only sell low-content books, such as diaries, notebooks, and journals. I currently have uploaded around 50 books, but I intend to increase that number and improve quality in the coming months.

So, around $60 is how many I earn on average from POD websites. This number does fluctuate, however, depending on the season. I did have a month on Redbubble where I earned $130-and it was great getting sales emails a couple times every day!

Am I happy with my results so far? Absolutely! Am I content to sit back and stay at this level? Absolutely not! Going forward, I plan on improving my design quality and uploading many, many more designs in the coming months.
